The Rhythms of your internal clock.

Circadian rhythms are physical, mental, and behavioral changes that follow a daily cycle. They respond primarily to light and darkness in an organism's environment. Sleeping at night and being awake during the day is an example of a light-related circadian rhythm.

The funny thing about life is that it’s temporary; that is to say, temporary in the ‘temporal’ sense of the word, meaning that all living things and all that we do are subject to the precepts and effects of time.”
—Lansing McLoskey, Theft

Though as " Childs play" people had volunteered for wintering in Antarctica ,The leader selected Col Ganesan did not take it lightly.

History was full of examples about the "Physical, mental and psychological battle " the Antarctic winter would cause amongst the unprepared team.Depression and mental dis order amongst the wintering team can happen if the team members individually did not prepare well.

The team leader not only keep himself fit,but also thoroughly understands the psychological battle he will be fighting with nature and non co-operating members.

The body’s internal timekeeping system is an under-recognized but highly influential force in behaviors and emotions including anger and reactive aggression. Predictable cycles or rhythms in behavior are expressed on several different time scales such as circadian (circa diem, or approximately 24-h rhythms) and infradian (exceeding 24 h, such as monthly or seasonal cycles). The circadian timekeeping system underlying rhythmic behaviors in mammals is constituted by a network of clocks

The Polar Night and 24 hours sun will certainly disturb the human body rhythm and create confusion amongst members.

Antarctica is a mysterious continent having extreme nature's hazardous conditions.Human body faces a new challange to adjust to the external conditions.

when it gets dark melatonin  is secreted and that enables sleep.Sleep ,therefore is  co ordinated by the internal clock and external changes. sleep is an important factor to keep the human body in a healthy condition.

A healthy entertainment, inter action between members ,Healthy food etc are very important factors when the team is in isolation for a long period.Going to Antarctica on a National mission is not like routine assignments.Even though the members may or may  not have the pride, the leader must certainly have it and demonstrate in his every activity.

The 7 th Antarctic expedition, left Antarctica in a blizzard condition on 28 Feb 1988 leaving the 5 th winter team to mend for themselves. There on what happened at Antarctica from the Indian side is an indelible record.

The team served as a homogeneous block to keep up the honour and integrity of the Nation.

Here they are on the land route to Maitree, india's 2nd station under construction."Sankalp" their caravan is moving.

En route they meet the Russian team from "Novolazaravskiya "

Maitree is about 85 Km from Dakshingangotri  and depending upon weather it may take 2-3 days to reach.

They drive over frozen lakes .
The first dozer to reach Maitree. Far to the right is the survival hut constructed during 2nd Expedition.

Colonel Ganesan and his 5 th winter team left Antarctica on 02 March 1989 and reached Goa port on 26 March 1989.
