Creativity is an inborn quality of some.

"Kingdom of heaven is heaven is with in you.Circumstances alone do not make us happy or unhappy. It is the way we react to circumstances that determines our feelings."

Our 5 th winter team  to Antarctica comprises 15 members unknown to each other and from different Services, cultural, and Regional back ground. They met for the first time at Goa before boarding the ship MV Thuleland.Under these circumstances the leader is heavily loaded with resposibility of maintaining cordial relationship amongst the team, carry out the tasks as given by Department of ocean Development and maintain the team healthy and of course safely bring them back.

The above light work was designed by 5 th winter team.It shows the places from where our members came.

                                              Himachal Pradesh-1   Jammu-1  Delhi-1

                   Assam-1,Madhyapradeh-1 Maharashtra-1,Andrapradesh-1

                                     Tamilnadu-5,Kerala-3

It is quit obvious  that the leader must be multy talented and deep thinking about the wintering. No wonder that Colonel was always thinking about the conduct of wintering.

This photo shows right from the time he boarded the ship Ganesan had been thinking about day by day activities of wintering only.

Contrary to the briefing he had about the wintering station is like a 5 star hotel, the very first look of DG  was heart chilling. It was totally sunk into ice and day to day survival itself would be threatening.

With out high lighting the negative aspects of hazardous days ahead,Colonel Ganesan started projecting the positive side of great adventure,Life time experience, and started designing the wintering activities accordingly..

Not a single day had passed without some thrilling experience. The Polar night was fast approaching where you don't see the sun at all.
So we decided to bid Farewell to the sun with ice bucket dance.

21 June is the mid winter day at Antarctica. The Sun generally will disappear by mid April and Re appear by mid July. This photograph is perhaps well coming the Sun after Polar Night.

When people were taking shelter during blizzard Colonel Ganesan was taking members outside to have a feel about Antarctica.

I am thankful to my wintering team who preserved some of the photographs and sending me now and then.

Thanks to I I G M Member Raghab chandra Deka.
