                                                    swimming in wild waters.

swimming is a good exercise. It exercises all parts of the body. Those who are born in villages criss crossed with rivers and canals are lucky ones as they learn swimming at very early stage itself. The boys and girls who excell in swinning will certainly go one step ahead  by learning Diving also.
Ganesan was one such youth who enjoyed swimming.Even after becoming an Army officer he did not leave swimming .The officers club are mostly have wsimming pools. He made it a habit to go swimming whenever time permits.

Ganesan at the Diving board at the College of Military Engineering.

Swimming is part of the training for "CORPS of ENGINEERS " of the Army.Bridging is one of the important task for Engineers in both peace and war.Once Prime minister Indira Gandhi was to address a meeting in Assam. One side the massive" Brahmaputra "was running restricting the public movement. It was decided to request Army Engineers to built a temporary bridge acros Brahmaputra .No wonder the Army Engineers produced a floating bridge.

Col Ganesan being a rural background officer he enjoyed water sports and participated in all wsimming and water polo competitions. He was awarded best swimmer prize at the College of Military Engineering.

Once there was a Bridging Training Camp across Sirhind Canal in Punjab. This is about 80 metre wide canal taking off from Bhakra Nangal Dam.Bieing a semi mountainous terrain the canal water is generally at high speed because of the slope of ground and at many places canal drops (verical fall ) was provided.

After the days training the officers were free and Ganesan decided to take a canal swimming.

This is  at Neelon River side Resort of Punjab Govt acroos Sirhind Canal.

Ganesan made arrangements that he will dive from one bank swimm across and get out from other bank.Since water was flowing very fast considerable distance was given in the downstream side and some men with first aid were waiting there.

                                                              There He Goes.

It was one of the Training camp of 4 Engineer Regiment.Captain CHOUKIMATH was the First aide officer.Once Col Ganesan took off from one bank Choukimath followed in jeep  and came to the finishing point. All ranks of the Engineer Regiment was watching this.

It was a test of endurance and Col Ganesan had no problem in taking such tests.
