O1 December 1942 born Colonel Pavadai Ganesan is from Corps of Engineers of the Indian Army.He was commanding an Engineer Regiment from November 1984.Generally the Command appointments are limited to 2-3 years in order to give more oppurtunities to eligible officers.So Ganesan was expecting his transfer order any time early 1987.
It was heaven sent oppurtunity that in April 1987 Army head quarters had called for volunteers to be leader of Indias 5 th winter team to Antarctica.The QR specified were looking like tailor made for Ganesan.The family conditions also were suiting him.His two children were 12 years and 7 years. so he volunteered.A number of interviews,medical examinations were held.Finally Ganesan was selected.

தலைமையாயினும் துணிவுடனே
விவரமாய்யதை எடுத்தோதி
மிடுக்குடன் செயல்கள் செய்பவராம்

கணக்கிலா சாதனை செய்தவராம்
கர்னலின் திறமையைக் கண்டதுமே
கைப்பிடித்தரசு உயர்த்தியதாம்
