we had seen Ganesan's First posting to 44 Field Park company in 1964.It was part of 6 Mountain Divsion. A division Engineer troops will have 3 Field companies,one Field Park company and ofcourse a Head Quarter to command and control.
Wnen ever there is a need additional Engineer troops are moved according to requirement.These Engineer troops could be from any of the Engineer Group,ez Madras,Bombay or Bengal Engineer Group.
Army HQ felt that if the complete Div Engineer are from the same Group the inter action between them would be better.so early 1965 Regimentation of Engineer Troops were ordered.23 Infantry Division at that time had 24 Field company (Bombay) 32 Field Company (Madras) 56 Field Company (Madras) and 306 Field Park Company (Bengal).
Inorder to form Engineer Regiment Field and Field Park Companies were moving here and there.44 Field Park Company which was part of 6 Mtn Div was to move to 23 Infantry Div and accordingly Advance parties were exchanged.6 Mtn Div had 22 Field Company (Bombay) 81 Field Company (Bengal) 428 Field company ( Madras).
While such moves were taking place Pakisthan launched attack on India at general area Kuthch and troops were ordered to move to western border immedietly.
Ganesan was on annual leave and it was cancelled and re called.At least 50,000 military personnel were milling arround Madras central station.Ganesan joined the crowed reached Pithoragar were his unit was located.But by the time Ganesan could reach Pithoragar,it was totally evacuated as troops were moving to western border.
The 1965 war in detail has been written somewhere else.
Ganesan after great events of the war landed at Sialkot sector in the same 44 Field Park Company.But within few days he was detailed on a course of instruction at Roorkee University and he moved accordingly.
While he was at Roorkee University he was asked to report to 23 Inf Division at Rangya,Assam.the units were returning to their original location after the war.
Accordingly 13 Field company which was part of 19 Div located at Baramula (J&K) came to replace 24 Field Company.Now 23 Inf had all Madras Engineer Group troops.On an auspecious day 02 June 1966 4 Engineer Regiment was formed.
Including Ganesan there were 13, 2L/Ts out of which about 5-6 of them became captains.Ganesan became captain in july 1966 and was shown on paper as Adjutant,4 Engineer Regiment,but he continued to be in 44 only.
On 28 March 44 celebrated " Kohima Day" and on the same day Ganesan left the Regiment on posting to Shillong as Assistant Garrison Engineer under GE,Shillong.
